Works – April 13, 2011
Committee members were updated on discussions held at the EFW Advisory Committee and advised that EFWAC meeting minutes would be shared with Works Committee members. The Committee was advised that EFWAC meetings are open to the public, that the preference is for daytime meetings but there is a possibility of evening meetings and that a facilitator for meetings has been retained. A written response will be prepared by the consultant to address health concerns raised about particulate matter emitted from the incinerator, current guidelines and mitigationmeasures.
An In Camera meeting of the Works Committee was held to provide confidential information regarding potential costs to terminate the incinerator contracts.
Joint Committee – April 14, 2011
A report providing an update on Durham Region’s Corporate Climate Change initiatives on carbon data collection, inventory forecast and adaptation planning was endorsed by the Committee. This climate change operational protocol will provide quality and consistent GHG data based on robust accounting in order to provide accurate reporting to stakeholders (internal and external). It will also assist in setting realistic targets for GHG reductions. Adaptation and building resistance is an integral part of the solution to address climate change implications. There will be a continuous process of integrating climate change into existing processes such as strategic planning, analysis, multi year forecasting, decision making, performance measurement and reporting.
