'Growing Durham' Official Plan, Incinerator
Proposal Airing at Regional Council Wednesday, June 3
The Growing Durham proposed amendment to the Official Plan
will be debated by Council at its meeting June 3rd at 10:00
a.m.
The health and environmental site specific assessments will be
presented to Committee of the Whole, Durham Region, June 16th
at 9:30 a.m. The incinerator debate will be on
June 24th at 10:00 a.m. at Regional council.

Council Honours Women Councillors...

On this day 90 years ago (April 24, 1919), women in Ontario
became eligible to serve on municipal council and be appointed
to municipal office. The Town of Ajax will recognize this
significant milestone by recognizing Ajax women councillors at
its April 27 Council meeting.
Town launches e-mail service to keep community connected
Ajax residents and businesses are encouraged to sign-up for the
Town’s new e-newsletter, which will be issued twice monthly,
to receive news and updates from the Town’s Web site.
The first issue of Ajax E-News (sent on April 3, 2009) provided
a number of highlights, including Council’s approval of a new
ward system, endorsement of a staff report recommending changes
to the Region's final Growing Durham scenario, Mayor Parish’s
presentation of the Town’s progressive trail system at the
Parks and Recreation Ontario Conference on March 31, Ajax Town
Hall receiving the Ajax-Pickering Board of Trade's prestigious
"Certificate of Achievement" award, and the approval
of the site plan for the new LEED designed Operations Centre
among others.
“The Town is committed to keeping its residents and businesses
informed and engaged on municipal projects, special events and
general interest topics,” said Christie McLardie, Manager of
Communications. “The new service enables us to stay connected
with our residents and businesses in a timely manner, provide a
platform for feedback, and build strong, lasting
relationships.”
The new service enables users to receive updates in 12
categories, some of which include the Town’s waterfront,
trails and parks, corporate and environmental initiatives,
business development, Recreation & Culture, and special
events.
New Ward System OKed by Council Ajax
Town Council has approved a new ward system that will retain the
already existing four ward system and structure, with slight
modifications.

- Colleen has introduced a motion in Ajax Council to ask the
Legislature to allow local governments to prohibit corporate and
union donations to local municipal election campaigns.
The motion passed Council with Ashby, Brown, Dies, Jordan and
Parish in favour and Collier and Crawford opposed.
