Host Lunch Welcomes Newcomers/Volunteers

Colleen brought greetings on behalf of the Mayor and Council to the Host Luncheon, on March 6th.  

The Host Program, funded Citizenship and Immigration and provided through Community Development Council Durham, matches new immigrants with volunteers.  The volunteers provide support , advice and help newcomers practice English.  The Host program has been provided for 15 years and complements the Immigrant Settlement Program as well as the Settlement Workers in the Schools Program.  Further information can be found at  www.cdcd.org

Host volunteers and their matches attended the "pot luck" luncheon and enjoyed an array of international food delicacies. 

Bozena Stoblinski, Host Program Worker describes the program and thanks volunteers.  Host Worker in the Schools worker Oliver Forbes, Colleen, Councillor Joanne Dies and Councillor Renrick Ashby are seated at head table.

1st Pickering Scouts Celebrate 90 Years

Colleen presented a plaque on behalf of the Mayor and Council to commemorate the  at their banquet held at Pickering Village United Church, Ajax on March 6, 2010.  During the day. A number of displays and memorabilia were also available for viewing.
