Colleen attended the Community Development Council Durham's Annual General Meeting and 40th Anniversary Celebration on April 15, 2010.  Prior to election to Regional Council, Colleen was the Executive Director of CDCD, which is a non profit organ- ization that provides child nutrition programs, housing help, immigrant settlement support and performs social research functions for the Durham community. 

Sarah McDonald former President of CDCD (then named Social Development Council Ajax-Pickering) and retired Principal Durham District Board of Education was one of the honoured guests at the celebration.

 Ajax 2010 Volunteer Awards, April 22, 2010

Colleen presented awards at the Ajax 2010 Volunteer Awards on April 22,
2010 at the Ajax Community Centre.   Outstanding community volunteers
are acknowledged at the annual event. Award winners are selected by a
committee  under specific categories.

Colleen is pictured presenting the Diversity and Community Award to the
Women's Multicultural Resource and Counselling Centre of Durham Region.
(WMRCC).  WMRCC provide support to immigrant and refugee women aimed atbbuilding life skills, reducing isolation and increasing self worth.
From 2007 to 2008 WMRCC also provided diversity training to over 70
community organizations in Durham.  Executive Director Esther Enylou
accepted the award on behalf of the Board, staff and volunteers of
WMRCC.

 

EIMG_1410.jpg Colleen presented the Environmental Award to the Ajax Trails Committee who have provided advice, on the development of new trails as well as marketing and promotion of the trails.  They participate in a number of town events, and organize Ajax Trailfest which includes "Ride Ajax with the Mayor."  The Committee provides a  number of guided walks Throughout the year and have been instrumental in Ajax, with its more than 80 kilometres of trails becoming the trail capital of Durham .  Colleen is shown with Deb Steer, who accepted the award on behalf of the Ajax Trails Committee.
