Patricia Clark was the recipient of
the 2009 Ajax Adult Civic Award, which was presented by Mayor Parish. Pat
was the founding member of Ajax Citizens Together and successfully
stopped the Region of Durham's proposal to build a toxic waste treatment
plant in South Ajax. She was also a founding member of
Pickering-Ajax Citizens Together, who successfully worked to prevent the
installation of another massive Metro Toronto garbage dump in Durham.
Pat was elected to Ajax Council in 1980 and reelected in 1982. In
1988 she was elected as the first Regional Councillor to serve the north
of Ajax. Retiring from politics in 1991, Pat has volunteered for a
number of organizations including Big Sisters, Denise House, the
Salvation Army "Brad Buddies" and assisting those in need
during the holidays. In 2005, she chaired the 50th Anniversary
Gala Jubilee to celebrate the town's 50th Anniversary. More recently,
Pat volunteered to help organize the 70th Anniversary of the
Battle of the River Plate and chaired the Gala Dinner, which honoured
the British and New Zealand veterans, as well as our own Canadian
veterans from past and present conflicts. Pat Clark was also
instrumental in raising funds for the Ajax Legacy Obelisk at Veterans
Point Gardens. Pat has a long history of serving the Ajax
community. Congratulations, Pat!
